Bassist Yasushi Nakamura leads a busy schedule playing in some of New York Cityfs most important jazz venues. Hefs recently been found at Birdland, the Jazz Standard, the Blue Note and Dizzy's Club, Lincoln Center performing with varieties of musicians. In 2011, Nakamura recently performed at David H Koch Theater, Lincoln Center with NYC Ballet, Susan Stroman's "For the Love of Duke." In November 2010, he toured Middle East with Jazz At Lincoln Center's "Kings of the Crescent City" project directed by Victor Goines. In 2009, he played for Bill Cosby's Mark Twain Award PBS TV Show at Kennedy Center inWashington DC. In March 2008, Nakamura performed at Jazz at Lincoln Centerfs Allen room for Dennis Irwin Benefit with Wynton Marsalis, Jon Hendricks and David Berger. Summer 2008, He toured Asia with Juilliard Allstars lead by Artistic Director of Juilliard Jazz Carl Allen.
Nakamura was born in Tokyo, Japan and grew up in Seattle. His musical training began at age eleven with clarinet and tenor saxophone, and he switched to bass at age fourteen. After graduating Newport High School in 2000, Nakamura went on to study jazz at Berklee College of Music, receiving his Bachelorfs Degree in Performance in 2003. In 2004, he received a full scholarship to the Juilliard School, graduating with AD Program in Jazz Studies in 2006.
Over his short but extremely impressive career, Nakamura has already performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall and the Monterey Jazz Festival. He was invited to perform with the 2003 Jazz Aspen Snowmass academy led by Christian McBride, the 2004 Ravinia Jazz Festival, and 2004 Betty Carterfs Jazz Ahead at Kennedy Center. Hefs performed with jazz stars including Carl Allen, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Wess Anderson, Darren Barrett, Ron Blake, David Berger, Brian Blade, Jimmy Cobb, Xavier Davis, Wycliffe Gordon, Victor Goines, Benny Golson, Benny Green, Jon Hendricks, Hank Jones, Winard Harper, Romero Lubambo, Wynton Marsalis, Bernard Purdie, Clarence Penn, Wallace Roney, Herlin Riley, Loren Schoenberg, Lew Tabackin, Richard Wyands and Myron Walden.
